What Heaven Sees

Does anyone see what heaven sees?
Did anyone notice beyond their lives
The world where brokenness thrives

Tell me how is it right
For a child to be left alone
With no one to say “you are mine”?

Tell me how is it right
That a mother is forced to abort
Forever a mistaken a life…

Does anyone see what heaven sees?
People with the biggest hearts
In the deserts, starving and thirsting.

Are we blind to it all?
Genocide and injustice
And few are sent.

A man sits with his head in his hands
The blood runs down his skin
And there is another, being more than his friend.

Will you be that one?
Will you hold what the world won’t hold?
Will you expose what the world hides?
Will you act where the world sits back?
Will you put your inner world aside,

And love?

Almost There

(Renee above the city we stayed in)

Sometimes after we had extremely intense English Corners I would sit silently on a bumpy bus back to our hotel and feel happy with life and with God. I’d let the wind from the open window rush into my face and the I’d gaze into the starless sky.  We all spoke our hearts out and tried to love – motivated by God’s own love for us. I remember one man asking me while we were talking about truth, God and philosophy, to change the subject. “Maybe, this is a little too serious to be talking about.” He’d interjected. I hesitated for a second. “But it’s important.” I responded. “Right, I think so too.” said another who sat across from me. And so we continued.

All of us met tiny miracles in these people’s lives. I see them as tiny miracles, as God working right underneath Satan’s grasp. No matter what he does to keep people from knowing God, people find out anyway. One girl became a Christian even though her parents were Buddhist. Her next door neighbor was a Christian taught her bible stories when she was younger!

Greg was talking about God to a group of students and there was one student among them who gave his own testimony as a Christian. Mikael met a young man who was actually in the army and by law has to relinquish all religious beliefs but has secretly been going to a bible study and wants to believe in God. “I’m not a Christian yet.” he told Mikael. Ruth met a girl whose mom cries out to Jesus in the midst of her depression, and yet she is not a Christian.

Renee met a girl who is upset with her friend because he has devoted his time to studying the bible and God and not to school as ardently. Renee was able to tell this girl what Christianity is all about for her ideas of it were misconstrued. Greg met two Christians and introduced them to each other. He said their faces upon meeting another Christian were filled with elation.

The same man who had asked to change the subject about religion then said that he was very close to following God. “How do I follow Him?” he asked me. So I told him how. he then asked, “But what if I can’t decide?” “God said not to be lukewarm. Don’t sit on the fence. Make a decision.” He later asked for my email to ask me more questions about all of this.

Liz talked to a girl who wanted to read the bible but didn’t have one. The next week, we had one for her and several more for many other people. (Apparently finding a bible is difficult.  We had a tough time finding them as well.)

Even though it seems as if we were a tiny island in the midst of multitudes of people who didn’t even know who Jesus is, there were always the people that encouraged us and surprised us. Those were the people who were about to decide to follow Jesus, those who already were despite controversy or hardship. There were those people who were following the heart of God without even knowing it. A dear friend of mine said “I want to be an artist and express in my work honestly, and show the Truth of human life, beauty and struggles.” She believes in God, but she has not decided to follow Him just yet. I still talk with her and one day, I have faith that she will decide follow Him.

“This Christianity” one Chinese man said, “I think it is a good thing.” It is. And God is reaching in the tiniest places in China where hope for truth is burning brighter and brighter. These are even only a few of the tiny miracles we found.
